MARS
is a singer and songwriter, harpist, performer,
and multi-media artist currently living and working and learning on an island in the Salish Sea.
Using voice, harp, loops, and her imagination, Mars strives to create a dreamlike state in which to tell soothing stories and bring nightmarish shadows into the light.
Reverently residing on the ancestral land of the Snuneymuxw people, Mars is continuously reflecting on her role as a white settler roaming these lands and waters. Mars strives to recognize harm and maintain accountability.
Mars has one full-length album titled Music for the Moon (2019), which explores themes of time, nature, and the intersections and dissections of body, mind, and spirit. She self-produced and released an EP, The Chaucer Sessions in 2017. Mars has been writing songs for nearing 20 years. She brings these words and melodies to her solo project MARS, and band duo Dagger Harbour.
With a Certificate in Jazz and Contemporary voice from VCC, A BMus with a specialization in classical voice from UVic, and a Certificate in Education Assistance and Community Support from VIU, Mars teaches beginner harp with sensitivity, humour, and creative flexibility.
